"MEDEA": Myth, Madness, and the Modern Stage
We partnered once again with the visionary The Coronet Theatre to help spotlight their bold, genre-defying production of MEDEA — a reimagining of the ancient Greek tragedy layered with haunting visuals, poetic fragmentation, and psychological rawness.
This was not just a classic retold. MEDEA pushed emotional and formal boundaries, captivating audiences through its fractured narrative, surreal choreography, and dreamlike staging.
Our goal? To build a digital campaign that amplified MEDEA’s arresting visual identity, ignited curiosity, and attracted culturally engaged audiences to The Coronet Theatre.
Editorial Meets Historical Resonance
In parallel, we developed editorial content that unpacked the central themes of Medea, contextualising the story through a Japanese lens. Articles explored:
The role and inner world of women during the era depicted in the play.
The social tensions and existential questions surrounding the Meiji Restoration.
How the themes of betrayal, displacement, and emotional silencing spoke to Japanese audiences both historically and today.
This editorial strategy deepened engagement for culturally curious readers, providing historical and emotional entry points to a complex, stylised production.
Outcome: Theatre, Amplified
Our campaign drove visibility and audience engagement in the weeks leading up to the premiere — sparking ticket interest across theatre lovers, students of classical drama, and fans of experimental performance.
By blending editorial content, Instagram-first visual storytelling, and targeted community engagement, Nakama Digital helped amplify one of The Coronet Theatre’s most ambitious productions to date.
Crafting a Campaign Rooted in Emotion & Myth
MEDEA presented a daring intersection of mythology and modern theatre. We created audience-facing content that reflected this duality — striking visuals paired with emotionally intelligent storytelling.
We wrote and published blog articles that explored the play’s mythological origins, its reinterpretation through a modern lens, and the emotional toll of its themes: betrayal, identity, and vengeance. These editorial pieces offered readers context and curiosity — priming them for the intensity of the live performance.
Instagram as a Moodboard of Emotional Tension
To bring the energy and emotional complexity of MEDEA online, we focused heavily on Instagram, using the platform as both a visual diary and a narrative extension of the stage.
We produced bespoke video content that captured the tone and emotional gravity of the show — from stillness and sorrow to rage and rupture. Each video was intentionally designed to mirror the fractured emotional landscape of the characters, sparking intrigue while staying true to the production’s haunting atmosphere.
